Hello Darkroom, My Old Friend

I've been taking another hiatus from the blog this August, mostly due to a large geographical distance between myself and my scanner.  However, I have been able to rent darkroom time this summer, something that is not available where I currently live.  Hooray for color darkroom rentals!  I hope to have scans posted by some time in September, and I might even have prints available for sale.

Thanks for visiting.  Please post comments in the usual spot.

Kitano Tenman-gū 3, 2013

Kitano Tenman-gū 4, 2013

I was lucky that my visit to Kyoto happened to fall on the 25th of the month, when they have an excellent flea market at Kitano Tenman-gū Shrine.  Plenty of crafts, antiques, and food plus a visit to the shrine.

All photos were shot with a Zero 2000 medium format pinhole camera on Ilford Delta 100 film.

Itsukushima, Japan

Miyajima 1, 2013
Deer on Miyajima, 2013

Miyajima 2, 2013
I processed my first roll of film from my Japan trip.  These were shot on Itsukushima Island, home of tame deer and the famous Itsukushima Shrine and torii gate.  All were shot with a Zero 2000 Medium Format pinhole camera with Kodak TMax 100 film.  Stay tuned to this space for pinhole photos of the shrine, which will hopefully be processed and scanned at some point this summer.

Zarautz Low Tide

Zarautz Low Tide, 2013
Shot with a Zero 2000 medium format pinhole camera on Ilford Delta 100 film.  Improperly mixed film developer (oops) led to some interesting streaky effects.

Castillo de Quel

Castillo de Quel 1, 2013

Castillo de Quel 2, 2013

Castillo de Quel 3, 2013
Here are some of my shots from this year's Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day.  We were looking for the dinosaur statues near Soria (mountain road closed for construction, no dinosaurs to be found on available routes) but stumbled on this castle in Quel, La Rioja, quite by accident.   All were shot with a Zero 2000 Medium format pinhole camera on TMax 100 film.

Thanks for visiting.  Please leave comments, questions and driving directions to interesting castles and dinosaurs in the space provided.

Carrera de Cintas a Caballo, Fuente de Piedra

Drinks on a Horse, 2011

Vaquera, 2011

White Horses, 2011
It took a while to get around to scanning these negatives.  These were shot at the Carrera de Cintas a Caballo in Fuente de Piedra, Malaga, in 2011.  The purpose of the race is to capture a ring that has been suspended in the air on a small wooden stick, all while riding full speed on a horse.  In Fuente, some of the riders were also intoxicated.  And they ride on pavement.  Without a helmet.  I recall shooting more film that day, so there are possibly more shots to be posted at a later date.

All were shot with a Rolleicord medium format TLR, using Ilford Delta 100 film.  Thanks for visiting.  Please feel free to leave comments, questions or horse stories in the space provided.
